Humans are novelty-seeking creatures.

We like discovering things.
We like surprises.
We like feeling like something is alive and evolving.

My local coffee shop does something interesting.

Every month they introduce a few special edition items.

Nothing revolutionary.

Just enough to make regular customers curious.

And it works.

I’ve probably ordered things I never would’ve considered simply because they were new.

It reminded me of products.

A lot of founders think retention comes from delivering the same experience consistently.

That’s part of it.

But delight matters too.

That’s why the best products rarely stay static.

The core experience remains familiar.

But there’s always something new around the corner.

In startups, it’s easy to become obsessed with shipping features.

The better question is:

What gives users a reason to come back?
