Naming

2024 is the year that having a compelling company name and matching domain name is more crucial than ever for branding and identity.

Two weeks ago, Monks announced that they were re-branding from Media.Monks and launched their new website at Monks.com.

This transition is more than just a name change; it represents a commitment to simplifying and strengthening its brand presence.

Monks.com will serve as a unified platform, along with their social handles, to show their innovative work across various projects.

You could argue that this is 'back to the future' of branding. Let me explain.

Apple was the original killer named startup and, as we know, has grown to become the most valuable company in the world, the ultimate symbol of sophistication.

Likewise, Amazon won the e-commerce era with its easy-to-pronounce yet super flexible and ambitious trademark, which appears on everything from packages to airplanes.

In the past few years, we've seen the most interesting startups launch with killer brands, including Nothing Bolt Ramp Captions Clay SKIMS On and more.

2024 is not about sounding the most clever or robotic, like many of the most boring brands from the 00s era. No one wants to buy from these companies, let alone work there.

I believe that brands started in the 2020s will become the future of branding, and in an era of AI, this will become more important than ever.
